The City of Witches, the cozy and tidy Salem is located about half an hour away from Boston, Massachusetts on the east coast of the USA. It’s not so hidden but really a gem of New England.
Chestnut Street in Salem is considered one of the most beautiful ones in the whole United States.
I had a kind of “street of my life” feeling there. You can experience this especially in the spring.
What’s the secret of Salem?
On the one hand, Colonial (17th century), Georgian (18th century) and Federal (early 19th century) architectural styles coexist harmoniously in the area.
On the other hand, they have a street tree conservation program, in which about five thousand trees – mainly maple, birch, linden, Japanese lilac, Chinese ornamental pear – are registered according to their GPS coordinates, and these are given special care.
On the walls of the houses you can see the year of their construction, the name and occupation of the first owner, for example: “1820, John Stone, Distiller”.
I didn’t really dive deep into the history of Salem witch trials this time – but I promise I will 🙂 -, I just simply admired the heartwarming atmosphere of the city that was a nice surprise to me.
The 184 years old Salem’s population is 43 559. I send my greetings to these lucky people! 😉
